Matthew Hanson
Originally from Portland, Maine—the “original and better Portland,” as he puts it—Matthew grew up surrounded by classic New England charm. He first encountered Jesus through a childhood best friend who persistently invited him to church. And in August of 2023, Matthew gave his life to Christ and was spontaneously baptized.
Before stepping into ministry, Matthew worked in personal loan lending and debt collection. As he grew in his faith, he began to feel a lot like Matthew the tax collector, and that this line of work wasn’t supporting the Kingdom of Heaven. The Lord put a question on his heart: “If Jesus was alive today, would you give up everything to follow Him in His ministry?”
Desiring to say yes to that question, Matthew decided to pursue ministry wholeheartedly, leading him to serve as a ministry intern at Peninsula Bible Church in Palo Alto. There, he gained hands-on experience teaching, leading small groups, and supporting youth ministry operations.
Matthew feels a deep sense of calling to San Francisco, drawn by the city’s spiritual diversity and longing to share the love of Christ with those who are searching–to show them the one true way to be spiritually fulfilled in Him. Having found a home at Reality SF early in his faith journey, he now counts it a blessing to serve the very community that helped shape his walk with Jesus.
As the Operations Coordinator, Matthew supports the church by coordinating room setups, organizing facilities, working alongside volunteers and security teams, and ensuring that Reality’s spaces remain welcoming, safe, and ready for ministry.
Outside of ministry, Matthew enjoys exercise and weightlifting, attending live music events, and exploring new bakeries and restaurants across the city.
